Pianisi Castle (Italian: ''Castello di Pianisi'') is a medieval castle located near the village of Sant'Elia a Pianisi in the Province of Campobasso in the Italian region Molise, located about northeast of Campobasso. It was built in the 10th century. It is now an new archaeological site open in 2015. == History == The Castle of Pianisi, was built on a hill near the river Fortore. It features a special construction with stones. The first castle fortification seem to be associated with the coming of the Normans in the 10th century, around the area of the fire. His history passed through the property of the feudal lords of the castle, among them the French knight milites of Norman origin, Giovanni di Natoli (Jean de Nanteuil, Natolii or de Nantolio), already Lord of Sparta and Laconia, who in 1269 received the castle for his military success directly from his relative King Charles I of Anjou, which arrived in Sicily.〔("Storia della famiglia dell'Antoglietta scritta da Scipione Ammirato", page 7 )〕 Later renovated and enlarged.
